It’s National Oral Hygiene Month!

Maintaining excellent oral hygiene is one of the best ways to keep your teeth healthy and functional. At Lanier Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, Buford dentists Dr. Alla Brown and Dr. Amanda Newberry are committed to helping patients achieve beautiful, healthy smiles. Sustaining optimal oral health is necessary to minimize the chance of developing complex dental issues like gum disease and tooth decay. Our goal is to help patients maintain healthy smiles and avoid the need for complex dental treatment which will save you money, time, and complications in the future.

Oral Hygiene

In order to maintain optimal oral health, patients should schedule regular visits to our Buford dentist office. Family dentists Dr. Brown and Dr. Newberry suggest that patients visit our office at least twice a year for a routine preventive care visit. During a preventive care visit, Dr. Brown and Dr. Newberry are able to examine the mouth, teeth, and gums for any signs of complex dental problems. While preventive care visits are designed to spot any signs of complex dental problems, your oral hygiene routine should be designed to minimize your chance of developing those complex dental problems. In order to develop a proper oral hygiene routine, patients should:

  • Brush your teeth for at least two minutes a day, twice a day.
  • Floss your teeth to get rid of debris that may be hiding between the teeth. Flossing is a great defense against gum disease.
  • Use mouthwash. Mouthwash can help remove any debris of bacteria in the mouth. Look for a mouthwash with an ADA approved seal.
  • Chew sugarless gum after meals. Sugarless gum gets help promote saliva productivity which helps debris from sticking to the teeth.
